Advice Filter

"Transform advice you've received in your life into an object"

Don't take criticism from people you don't want advice from.

The Advice Filter is a wearable object designed to physically process criticism. The project was created in response to a simple piece of advice: “Don’t take criticism from people you wouldn’t ask advice from.”

The object takes the form of a small wooden box that can be worn as a shoulder bag. Inside the device are small square note papers where people can write down criticism they have received. After writing it down, the note is inserted into the device and pulled through a mechanical filter by turning a small handle.

When the paper emerges from the bottom of the device, it is stamped with one word: “REJECTED.”

By turning an abstract mental process into a physical action, the Advice Filter allows users to symbolically filter out unhelpful criticism. The act of writing, inserting, and rejecting the message transforms negative feedback into something tangible and controllable.

Rather than ignoring criticism, the device invites reflection on who the criticism comes from and whether it actually deserves space in your mind.

The project sits somewhere between design object, performance tool, and personal ritual. It externalizes a psychological boundary: not all opinions deserve to pass the filter.
